Promoting compassion and humane care for Jackson County's feral cat population
Feral cats live outside and will not allow people to touch them.
The Forgotten Felines is a management plan in which feral cats in Jackson County are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated against rabies, and sterilized by veterinarians. The cats are then returned to their familiar habitats under the lifelong care of a caretaker.
They must be at least three-months-old. Only residents of Jackson County may participate in this program.
Participants will receive information at CHS on how to trap the cats safely, care for them, and then release them.
Participants can receive traps and carriers from CHS, with a deposit that will be returned to them once the equipment is returned to CHS. They do not have to pay for the spay/neuter surgeries.
To apply, please download the following application, fill it out, and bring it in to CHS. Caretakers have their choice of two participating veterinarians in Jackson County.
The Forgotten Felines program is supported by donations. Click here to make a gift online. Contributions can also be mailed to CHS.
Or you can purchase a catnip pillow for $1 to help spay and neuter feral cats. Click here to learn which locations sell them.
